Effective Date: 1 September 2025
This Refund Policy outlines the circumstances under which the Australian School of Self-Defence (ASOSD) will provide a refund. It should be read in conjunction with our Terms of Use and Cancellation Policy.
1. General Refund Principle
Our goal is to provide high-quality services, and we are committed to complying with our obligations under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Refunds will be provided in accordance with the ACL and the terms outlined in this policy.
2. When You Are Eligible for a Refund
You may be eligible for a refund in the following circumstances:
- Service Cancellation by Us: If we cancel a class, workshop, or other service, you will be offered the choice of a full refund or a credit for a future service.
- Early Cancellation by You: If you cancel your booking within the notice periods specified in our Cancellation Policy (e.g., more than 48 hours for a single class).
- Major Failure of Service: If there is a "major failure" with our service as defined by the Australian Consumer Law.
- Billing Errors: In the event of a proven duplicate charge or other billing error on our part.
A major failure occurs when the service: has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they had known about it; is substantially unfit for its common purpose and cannot easily be fixed; does not meet the specific purpose you asked for; or creates an unsafe situation.
3. When Refunds Are Not Provided
Subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, we do not provide refunds in the following situations:
- Change of Mind: For changes of mind outside of the specific cancellation periods outlined in our Cancellation Policy.
- No-shows or Late Cancellations: If you fail to attend a booked session or cancel outside the notice periods defined in our Cancellation Policy.
- General Dissatisfaction: For general dissatisfaction with a service that is not related to a failure to meet a consumer guarantee.
- Unused Portions of Memberships: For unused portions of a recurring membership, except where required by the ACL or as specified in our Cancellation Policy.
- Merchandise: For merchandise that is not faulty. If merchandise is faulty, you are entitled to a remedy under the consumer guarantees for goods.
4. How to Request a Refund
To request a refund, you must submit your request in writing via email to info@australianschoolofselfdefence.com.au. Please include your full name, date of booking/purchase, the service in question, and a detailed reason. We will assess your request within a reasonable timeframe.
5. Processing Refunds
Approved refunds will be processed back to the original payment method used for the purchase (e.g., via Stripe to your credit card). Please allow 5-10 business days for the funds to appear in your account.
6. Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law
This Refund Policy does not and is not intended to exclude, restrict, or modify any of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our services come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded, and you are entitled to a remedy if we fail to meet one of these guarantees.
